Ordinary is Extraordinary...06/21/11

Today is the first day of summer.

The 172nd day of the Gregorian Calendar.

Today, and mostly every other day of the year for me at home looks like this...
except not quite grey....maybe I'll use my colored pencils next time....

Ordinary is Extraordinary...06/17/11

Sometimes we fall,
and it's cool, so long as you can pick yourself up and carry on...
I got scraped knees- something I've always been afraid of by just the mere thought...

But after I got up, I took this as an opportunity to reflect upon this little trip and see it as a very cliché metaphor in life.
But, there's always something to be learned from these little moments you don't usually want to remember, so of course I had to stop and snap a picture, as a reminder.....; AND a little scuff makes me look tough....

Ordinary is Extraordinary...06/15/11

Books have been quite the distraction from my pencil making acquaintance to the paper in my sketchbook, but when I finally got down to it, I felt like my weekend was too good to skip...

I played Badminton with cousins this weekend, which was soooo much fun!
More sporting weekends to come I hope....

I've also been reading, listening to, rather, the Hunter S. Thompson bio, Outlaw Journalist, by William McKeen, it's been great company on my long drives to and from work; so I've truly grown to love and admire HST's contributions to culture and literature, more than I already do. Full of fantastic anecdotes, and not a dull moment. Also, it makes me want to re-read some of his books I already read....
He's probably one of THE most notable Americans, ever (in my book of course).

Annnnnd, speaking of notable peeps, I celebrated my lovely mom's birthday. If you know me pretty well, you know it's quite difficult for me NOT to talk about her. So, I tried capturing her in the form of a line drawing, but I couldn't quite get her right....not yet at least....Anyway, it was a lovely celebration of the day my mom was born....

Ordinary is Extraordinary...06/09/11

Hi,

Exercising my drawing skills yet again....
And trying not to banter too much, but rather, let the line drawings speak for themselves....

But what, might you ask, is so interesting about the few objects on my bathroom counter, that I need to illustrate such items?
Ohhhhh, only that they are only the few things I use daily, and are most always in the SAME place, EVERY morning, which is difficult for me as I'm quite the scatterbrain...so before I leave in the AM, after looking into the mirror, I apply some hair product, grab my glasses, watch and lipstick and kitty scampers in front of me to the door as we part ways for the day....
So there I went rambling......

Some current fascinations:
kale
typing on my typewriter
Simone de Beauvoir

And yes, that green in the illustration below is from a few pieces of kale I smeared on my page.

And chaton's not quite drawn to scale, oops....

Ordinary is Extraordinary...06/03/11

Mixtape sessions, they're quite a blast....
I made one of my best friends a mix tape recently- a mix recorded on to a cassette tape, not a CD...
Haven't done that in years....
It was fun, but I forgot how long it took to make, and I wasn't very good at writing each song down so I made the tracklist in front of her...ooops....
